Welcome to our first in a series of Adult coloring. I’ve noticed a few of
you ask: What type of pen or pencil to use? So I thought I give you an
overview of the main types.
Colored Pencils
In my humble option Colored pencils are the best option if you are wanting to
get the most control and variation in color on your page. Not all colored
pencils are created equal, they do vary significantly in quality. If you like a
smooth consistent finish then I recommend using Staedtler Luna or Noris. My
favorite are the Luna
These pencils are great, and there is 24 colors in a pack! They have a soft
core which is great for blending and getting a nice smooth finish. They also
give you beautiful vivid colors, without having to press too hard. Let’s face
it, you’re spending a lot of time on this so you want to maximize your
results!
Water Color Pencils
Water color pencils are very similar to color pencils in that they allow you to
have precise control, achieving great detail and variation in color depth. The
difference between regular color pencils and water-soluble pencils are their
leads. Color pencil leads are either wax or oil based, whereas watercolor pencil
leads have a water soluble base. They are awesome! I mainly use Staedtler
Aquarell. Even if you are not blending with water they are still great to
use. Here is an example of the type of finish you can get by blending with
water. Just use a fine pant brush to blend.

How long have you been doing adult colouring?
Since my mum brought me a colouring book for my holiday in June this year
for our trip to Rotorua. She made me a pack with the colouring book pencils and
chocolate :) lets just say it's the best gift I've ever received!
Thanks mum!

We have picked out a few colourers who submitted entries to our Adult
Colouring Competition for a brief Q&A about colouring and

We've spoken to winner Kimberley

Shasta Wood already. Today we speak to Darcy Turner who submitted this impressive entry!
How long have you been doing adult colouring?
I have been colouring since I can remember, growing up drawing and
colouring was a way for me too express my feelings and emotions, it's food for
the soul. Either it's adult or child colouring books, get the best of both
worlds :)
Do you have any art background?
My nana, was a professional painter. She would always be painting or
drawing, when ever I visited. I learnt heaps about artwork history from her,
got heaps of tips and skills as well! Really got into art class all during my
high school years, was best thing about school besides the cooking class
:P haha

How long have you been doing adult colouring?
I don't think I ever made the transition from child to adult colouring as
I have been colouring and drawing since I could hold a pencil. Wasn't until
the past few months when adult colouring became huge that I bought colouring-in
books that were intricate and challenging.

The prospect of being able to easily make models, miniatures, gadgets and
spare parts from plastic is an appealing one for sure and the Divinci
XYZ printer looked like just the sort of machine we needed to get
our build on, lucky for us – we've got them right here at Mighty Ape!
We decided to spend 24 hours with this machine to see what someone could
expect to make with no special training and hope you enjoy seeing what we got up
to :)
Unpacking was pretty straight forward, we carefully removed the internal
safely foam and cardboard supports and whenever we got stuck figuring out how to
remove a piece we referred to the manual and it was all in there, very clearly
written with pictures and arrows. (one piece of cardboard supporting the
printing arm had me stumped, turned out you just pull from the bottom)
The hardest part proved to be deciding what you want to make
first! Your imagination sure can run wild, but we turned to Google to
see what was possible. Not surprisingly, it was a bit overwhelming, but mostly
due to the amount of content and support out there for people just getting into
3D printing. Travelling to various sites like Yeggi & Thingiverse, we
quickly found a huge range of models and but settled on starting out with
something we thought was pretty cool.

If things around your house are looking a little dull these days, why not
liven them up in the one of the easiest ways possible?
If you haven't encountered the washi tape craze that seems to be washing
across every DIY blog on the internet, we'll quickly catch you up.
You can find washi tape's roots in Japan, with its materials being sourced
from natural fibres like the indigenous mitsumata shrub or gampi tree.
Suprisingly strong, washi tape have the same durability as duct table, but are
considerably more decorative. As for its use – that's completely up
to you!
If you're not sure where to start, why not try covering some books for
school, personalise your keyboard or get your nails done.
