This game is a joy to unbox. It may not be the cheapest game but you certainly get your money's worth. Game play takes around 40mins and allow 5mins to lay everything out. Suitable to play with 2 or as a family (I'd recommend 10+ age). Every game is different and it's an easy game to help newer players with as each person has full control over their game situation. Like many good engine building games there is very little opportunity to disadvantage other players which means it's easy to help younger family members or those new to the game. If you love board games then you won't regret adding this to your collection.

An amazing game with a brilliant flow and massive replayability, the artwork on the cards and boards is like no other and the packup is super tidy and precise, absolute blast to play with friends and family too.

First two games were a bit tricky with a steep learning curve (the game is rated for ages 14+), but once you “get it” the game is lots of fun with multiple ways to earn points for the scoring. It does include some role-play sheets to walk players through the first game, which was greatly appreciated as the game isn't like anything we had played before (not often I can say that)! Absolutely gorgeous art on the cards, and the ability to “scan” the cards and hear the birdcalls was a big win. The bird deck is HUGE – after 3 games we hadn't quite made it through half of the deck. Liked it so much we're saving for the expansion packs! Downsides: It does require a grasp of strategy, and fairly intense concentration to play so we would agree with the 14+ recommendation. Storage for the pieces within the box (after playing) not ideal – the dice rolling box would need to be dismantled to store it in the game box, we felt there were insufficient containers to hold the eggs, and there is nothing to store the card deck intact in the box.

There are lots of elements to balance here, and luck plays a big part in it, a bad starting hand and you are going to struggle to shine. Essentially this is a one person challenge game that you play with other people, if that makes sense. You need to be very on to it to be playing it in conflict with others, as there is little room to disrupt them without hampering yourself. Makes for a nice time, though, if you like co-op or less bad feels conflict (so different to catan, where you are competing directly). It is well made. The cards feel good, the birdhouse dice roller is cute, the dice are hefty and pretty, the components are clean. The writing on the bird cards can be a little difficult to read if your eyes aren't perfect, and there is a lot to take on board at the start, but it only takes 2 or 3 games to get the hang of it, and expansions fit in neatly afterwards. (although the oceania expansion has terrible isntructions)

This game is an absolute joy to unbox and play. The pieces and components are very high quality and have that “solid” feel. Th game itself is a little complex to learn but once you start playing, it makes sense and has a high level of replayability, with each game different from the last and the next. Would recommend for both new and experienced board gamers. One amazing feature is that it can be played solo or with friends.

As a family who hasn't dabbled too far into board games in the past (basically just Monopoly) – this has been a hit in our household, and we now play it multiple times a week! We play it sometimes with just myself and my wife, but our 7 year old also joins in most times with some handicaps available to him – e.g. He pays one fewer eggs, or receives one extra food/card, etc. Some of the ideas/strategy that the adults utliise can be a little complex for him, and there are some nuances about the birds/bonuses that he doesn't fully realise, but he loves the game and is gradually learning and implementing the strategies himself.

A game takes 3 of us anywhere from 45–70mins. Setup is about 5mins, and then it's about the same to pack it all away. Coming from people who haven't played this sort of game in the past, it did take 2–3 games before we were really comfortable with the rules and how the strategy ties together, but once you've got that down, the replayability is immense – there are many different ways to win depending on what you start out with, and each game works out differently.

The base game is great by itself, but the expansions really added an extra dimension to it. The artwork and design of all of the components are amazing – although it didn't take longer for the little nubs that the birdfeeder slots in with to tear, so that's a bit fragile at the moment, but still usable (and not exactly necessary if it does end up completely failing).

I highly recommend this, and the associated expansions.

Have been learning to play this game with my family. Has been a real hit. They love all the pieces and learning about birds. I will probably buy the extensions as soon as I am able. Only disappointment was the bird box you assemble. The children had hoped it was a solid piece and are worried that with constant use, it will eventually come apart. Pity it isn't molded But the rest is amazing.

Fun and easy to play , my 8 year old picked it up quite easily. Also just bought to Oceania expansion which adds a little twist and new excitement to the game.

Played it in our gaming group and we really enjoyed it. I wasn’t expecting too much of it, but lots of fun and am so glad I bought it. I think it’ll be a staple in our rotation now. Easy to pick up how to play with really good quality pieces and artwork. Gameplay – you figure out tactics to play each turn, while keeping in mind your overall strategy for most points. It had our attention the entire game and had quite a bit of back-and-forth discussion about what we were doing. I would definitely recommend this. Just keep in mind the playtime of it – it’s not a short game.

Fun, and strategic. Excellent production value and the thought they have put into the pieces, boxes etc is much higher than the average or even most of the good games. It has been a great family game with its lack of direct competition but our 8year old has struggled with the strategic depth, to be fair it is not meant for 8 year old though.

Wingspan is a fully themed game, and while the theme provides a basis for the cards and actions, it doesn't drive a narrative, but doesn't need to. This game is easy to pick up, has lots of different ways to win, so provides a great way for a friendly games night. This is not a game where you want to beat your opponent, but rather where you do your best and work to come up with good and clever options with the hope that these then edge out your competitors. The ‘feed’ mechanic is clever giving a nice twist from some of the usual roll dice options out there. This game comes with not only links to a fantastic ‘how to play’ video (which yes you can find versions of on You Tube, but also a set of cards and outlines that walk new players through all the actions of the game as a tutorial, so that everyone can see the different options and there benefits, while leaving all players at a pairable state to continue on from.

They're good birds

Awesome gameplay and mechanics, as well as being a bit unique with it's theme. I would class as medium difficulty to learn with not too many rules, which makes easy to first timers to be introduced to these types of board games while still being entertaining for seasoned gamers. Will be buying the expansion pack soon as we can't stop playing this.

Great production, great artwork – had to pick this up after playing Scythe. There isn't much player interaction, but the game rewards you for thinking ahead and managing your actions and other assets. The replayabilty is quite strong too.

Wife and I were looking for 2 player games to reduce dumb tv time. Wing span didn’t disappoint. Our kids below the recommended 14 were able to handle the game play, though the time frames does stretch little kids patience. Will eventually be Xian’s and buy mor of the same publisher

Relaxed, easy setup and fun.

A lot of components to learn but after 1 game, everyone I've played with understands the game with little difficulty. Love it!

Took to about 1/2 way through the second game to understand the various rules, but it is a fun game, that my children especially enjoy.

If you like interesting informative games ( where you learn something ) , would recommend . Great detail in the cards , and how it roles in to challanges , so it is never the same . And with the scoring system the out come is endless . Play by yourself the single version to me is a little confusing , but does not lack in challange to normal multi player . If you want something diffrent to main stream , harder to find games , shop with Mighty Ape . You won't be disapointed .

A game about birds can’t be good right- Wrong ! This game is so much fun and the components just compliment the game so well! Great solo mode as well!

Came for the novel dice tower, stayed for the beautiful eggs and artwork, plus a great fun game to boot!
